Group visits Battersea Arts Centre

The Arts & Leisure group has been actively engaged in discussions with the Council to explore the possibility of converting the Town Hall to house a number of artistic activities, as part of our aim to establish an arts and leisure centre in Ealing.

To further this objective, we have been looking at how other local centres have been set up. A team has visited Battersea Arts Centre, a Grade II* list building which first opened as Battersea Town Hall in 1893. It was used for over 70 years for municipal purposes before being converted into an arts centre following a period when it had lain empty.

It was an inspiring visit, giving us all encouragement and ideas about how to proceed. See BAC's web site at www.bac.org.uk.

Another example of a successful town hall conversion can be seen at Hampstead Town Hall.
